ENZO FERRARI

Enzo Anselmo Ferrari was born on February 18, 1898 in Modena, Italy to Alfredo and Adalgisa Ferrari. He grew up with little formal education and spent his childhood working for his father's metal parts business. Ferrari was ten years old when his father took him to the car race Circuit di Bologna: an event that inspired him to become a race car driver. When his father died during the First World War, Ferrari stopped his studies and worked as an instructor at a lathing school. He then joined the Italian army but was released due to a serious illness.

Ferrari's cars with the "prancing horse" emblem continued dominating the races and the sports car market for years, until strong competitors emerged. He eventually sold half of his stake in the company to Fiat in 1969, and then formally resigned as president in 1977. The company was renamed Ferrari S.p.A. and then Ferrari N.V. recently. Ferrari died in August 1988 in Maranello.
